Saving the seas starts on ground!

For Earth Day, Fortifem artists created a limited edition screen printed poster in collaboration with Dr. Martens and in support of The SeaCleaners.

To fight against plastic pollution, saving the sea starts on land with the actions of The SeaCleaners.

This is not the first time the French artist collective Førtifem has collaborated with the Dr. Martens brand. Last April, on the occasion of Earth Day, they once again offered their talent to create a unique poster highlighting the importance of protecting the oceans. A colorful and graphic illustration representing the different actions carried out by The SeaCleaners on land and at sea!

If saving the sea starts on land, it’s because 80 percent of marine debris comes from land, according to a study by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The waste is carried to the ocean by rivers and streams, or is dumped directly into sewers and gutters. There too, it eventually finds its way into the ocean via drainage systems.

“Between 9 and 14 million tons of plastic end up in the oceans each year, and this amount is expected to double by 2040. ”

According to a study from the University of California at Santa Cruz

These figures highlight the crucial importance of raising awareness of the devastating impacts of plastic pollution on the marine environment and promoting sustainable waste management practices on land. Only awareness and collective action to change individual behavior and industry practices will make a real difference in the medium term.

This is the approach of The SeaCleaners with its clean-up actions on land and at sea, as well as with its awareness actions organized by its volunteers in France and around the world.

When art serves ecology!

The collaboration with Førtifem and Dr. Martens is a perfect example of how art can be a vehicle for raising public awareness of environmental issues, highlighting important messages in a creative and visual way.

To provoke thought, to inspire innovative solutions, to raise awareness: art is a powerful way to mobilize emotions and use them as a driving force to take action to protect the planet.

This is why The SeaCleaners is associated with ambitious and inspiring artistic projects such as the one by Førtifem and Dr.Martens.

The limited edition posters are available for sale on The SeaCleaners’ committed store. 100% of the proceeds will be used to finance the association’s missions!
