Bac Pro students become ambassadors for the Ocean in Morocco
Awareness and education
23 February 2024
Since the beginning of the year, a group of Terminale Bac Pro students from the Lycée Professionnel de Prony in Asnières-sur-Seine have been working on an "ecological, civic and humanitarian" project to learn about the challenges of plastic pollution and raise awareness among children during a trip to Morocco. For their training, their teachers Béatrice Cayol and Leila El Hah succeeded in mobilizing several environmental associations, including The SeaCleaners, Surfrider and La Fresque du Climat.
Understanding the importance of preserving the world's oceans
On February 7, two members of The SeaCleaners met a group of 24 schoolchildren for half a day, to explain the ravages of plastic pollution, the importance of preserving the ocean and its ecosystems, and the solutions available on our own scale. Discussions and fun activities gave the youngsters an insight into the marine world. The event ended with a lively debate, stimulating reflection and encouraging the emergence of innovative solutions for a future without plastic pollution.
For their teachers, this project is pedagogically interesting, as “it enables us to mobilize students right from the start of their school careers to the harmful effects of plastic pollution. The aim is to get them involved in a collective adventure that lays the foundations for sustainable civic commitments.“
Raising awareness among elementary school students in Casablanca
Among the 24 participants, 10 students, now trained and equipped, have been selected to carry out awareness-raising actions in Casablanca elementary school, with children aged 6 to 11. This initiative shows that young people have the power to transform mentalities and initiate changes in behavior to fight plastic pollution.
